Ozone removes pollutants from water
Our ozonation technology is a highly effective method for removing various types of pollutants from wastewater. Here are the main types of contaminants that this process can effectively treat. This list is not exhaustive.
Pathogenic microorganisms
Ozone is a powerful disinfectant capable of destroying a wide range of microorganisms, including:
– Bacteria
– Viruses
– Protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
Ozone works by destroying the cell walls of pathogenic microorganisms, thus preventing their reproduction in the environment concerned.
Organic compounds
Ozonation effectively breaks down many complex organic compounds, including pesticides such as Atrazine, Mecoprop, glyphosate, Aldicarb or pentachlorophenol. But also:
– Pharmaceutical products
– Endocrine disruptors
– Dyes from the textile sector
– Volatile organic molecules
Ozone transforms these substances into simpler and more biodegradable products, facilitating their subsequent elimination during treatment in a treatment plant.
Micropollutants
Ozonation has proven particularly effective in eliminating micropollutants present in wastewater:
– Drug residues or hormones such as:
Antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole, clarithromycin, trimethoprim)
Analgesics (diclofenac)
Antiepileptics (carbamazepine)
Beta-blockers (atenolol, metoprolol)
Hormones (17a-ethinylestradiol)
– Products present in personal care products such as Benzotriazole and methyl-benzotriazole.
– Other emerging contaminants
Other pollutants
Ozonation, due to its high oxidizing capacity, also allows the treatment of:
– Suspended solids
– Substances responsible for unpleasant odors
– Other non-biodegradable pollutants
In addition, ozonation significantly reduces the residual COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and can effectively decolorize wastewater.
In combination with other treatment methods such as activated carbon filtration, ozonation offers a complete solution for the elimination of a broad spectrum of pollutants in wastewater.
